December 28th Challenge - "A Day in the Snowglobe" - Rules and Conditions

For this challenge, the theme is "A Day in the Snowglobe". It's a Winter theme, not necessarily a Christmas theme. Snowglobes are also sometimes called "Snow Domes". Just to be clear, I am looking for a miniaturized winter scene, not just the outside of a snowglobe. Hence the title "A Day in...".

This time around, I am giving away 3 copies of "Digital Lighting and Rendering" by Jeremy Birn to the top 3 winners. If you win, and you already own this book, I can suggest another. I am having them shipped directly from Amazon.com when the winners are chosen.

Entries will be accepted until December 28th 2001. Hopfully the judging can be completed before the new year, but I'm leaving is loose, as some people will be out of town, and otherwise involved in family activities.

The judges will be considering the technical merits of the image as well as creativity, so the best rendering of a snowglobe may not win. Try to be imaginative with the theme. A little humour never hurts either. Pay attention to the entire image. That includes lighting, camera position, and general composition.

Rules and Conditions

It does have to be fully modeled, textured and rendered in Strata3D (any flavour).

Entries will consist of a 640 x 480 rendered image, and a screenshot of the model in S3D.

Judging will be done by a panel of 7 or more judges. I will select the panel after the close of the challenge from among community artists that did not enter the contest. The judges will not know the names of the contestants.

The results of the challenge will not be changed for any reason. Once the winners have won, that's that. Please don't email me to tell me that you should have won.

Please, if you have any questions or suggestions regarding the contest, please email me at: michael@stratacafe.com

The benefits of the contest:

1) The top 3 winners (first, second and third place) will receive one copy of "Digital Lighting and Rendering" by Jeremy Birn, or a substitute book if they already own that one. The book is being shipped from Amazon.com. So, after the order is placed. The delivery will be out of my hands. If it arrives broken, or never arrives at all, I will definately help anyway I can (eg. contacting UPS and/or Amazon.com) but I will not be held legally responsible for their prompt delivery.

2) Winners will receive a charming banner to place on their website.

3) There will also be a smaller graphic, that looks a lot like the larger graphic, that will reside on the winners profile page on StrataCafe, forever and ever.

4) People can come to this page to get information on up and coming contests and view past winners (That would be you!)

5) You will receive the adoration of your friends and family, as well as most of the people who visit StrataCafe. (Note: Adoration not a guarantee.)
