December 3rd Challenge - StrataVectors Animation Challenge

Strata is looking for the best examples of vector-based output from the new Strata 3Dpro 3.6 Rich Media Edition with the Swift 3D rendering capability. There are two categories for the challenge, and the winner of each wins a $500 check from Strata.

Commercial Application

In the Commercial Application category, entries should be vector animations (.swf or .svg) produced for use by an actual company, business or institution (it may be your own) as a logo, advertisement or other commercially-oriented application of rich media. Entries do not have to be for a paying, commercial client, but cannot be for a fictional company.. Entries will be judged by: production quality, creativity, effective presentation of the brand, "file efficiency" on the web, and recognizability of the subject company. The winning entry will represent the best overall balance between these criteria.

Entertainment

The Entertainment category is much broader, but could involve more work. Entries should again be vector animations (.swf or .svg) produced for fun, entertainment, or just "eye-candy". Entries in this category will be judged principally by: production quality, creativity, file efficiency on the web, and pure entertainment value. The winning entry will be the one that gets the biggest "Wow!" out of the judges at Strata.

Entries are due no later than 8:00am MST (Mountain Standard Time) on December 3rd, 2001, and will be judged by the Core Team at Strata. Winners will be announced, and cash prizes awarded, by December 9th, 2001.

Rules and Conditions:

  • All entries must be produced using Strata 3Dpro v 3.6 Rich Media Edition.

  • Any files already used for promotional purposes by Strata (i.e. in today's Strata Bulletin) are not eligible.

  • Entries must be accompanied by a screenshot of the model in strata (i.e. in a modelling window in outline mode.)

  • Entries must be under 1 mb in size, but since consideration will be given to fast-loading files, this should be a given.

  • Entries will not be accepted later than 8:00 am MST (10 am EST). Email or network problems will not be acceptable reasons. Expect to submit your entry before the deadline. I will be personally responding to each entrant to let you know that I have received it and it opens just fine. If you do not get that email within a day or so, please re-send it or contact me personally.

  • Flash, LiveMotion, or any other Flash/SVG compatible program, may be used to optimize the file with these restrictions: No ActionScript, bitmapped or traced bitmapped images, shape tweening, music, sound effects, scripting or other interactive elements may be used.

Possible modifications can include, but are not restricted to: using a static vector background image, motion tweening, making symbols of single/multiple looping shapes, adding titles, adjusting opacity and holding images for more than one frame."
