June 11th Challenge "These boots were made for..." - Outline

Our first animation challenge. This is a pretty simple one. What you need to do is model and texture an original character and animate a walk cycle loop (when the animation is looped, it should look like the character is walking forever). The character should be fully textured, but the ground can be featureless (like the animation linked below.)
Click the image above for a sample of what is required.

You don't need to have any items on the ground. I thought it was necessary here to give a sense that he was, in fact, moving. Be wary of moonwalk syndrome =)

You can use a character that you have already modelled and textured, but you cannot download one off this site or the internet, and you cannot use a Poser model. It must be your own modelling. Robots are acceptable, but they can't move on wheels, they must walk, run, skip, etc.

Entries can be in Flash, Quicktime, or animated GIFs, but they must be under 1mb. They can be any physical size, you are not restricted to 640 x 480.

Entries will be accepted until Tuesday June 11th 2002. The judges will be considering the quality and creativity of the modelling and the animation, so try to give the animation a little character (eg. if the character is a little girl, maybe she should be skipping instead of walking.)

Rules and Conditions

It does have to be fully modeled, textured and rendered in Strata3D (any flavour).

Entries will consist of a Flash, Quicktime or animated GIF under 1 mb, and a screenshot of your model in Strata3D. The animation cannot contain your name or email address anywhere on it, as the judging will be anonymous.

Judging will be done by a panel of 7 or more judges. I will select the panel after the close of the challenge from among community artists that did not enter the contest. The judges will not know the names of the contestants.

The results of the challenge will not be changed for any reason. Once the winners have won, that's that. Please don't email me to tell me that you should have won.

These rules may be subject to change without notice before the close of the contest.

Please, if you have any questions or suggestions regarding the contest, please email me at: michael@stratacafe.com

The benefits of the contest:

1) Winners will receive a charming banner to place on their website.

2) There will also be a smaller graphic, that looks a lot like the larger graphic, that will reside on the winners profile page on StrataCafe, forever and ever.

3) People can come to this page to get information on up and coming contests and view past winners (That would be you!)

4) You will receive the adoration of your friends and family, as well as most of the people who visit StrataCafe. (Note: Adoration not a guarantee.)
