There are some definitely aliasing problems with that one, or maybe it's with the alpha channel. Like I mentioned to teepoj as well, you have high contrast stuff running under the type, and white in the empty spots.
There's lots of time, don't feel like you have to whip something up in a few hours to get under the wire.

Possibly, but with the same concerns I had for some of the others:

It's busy behind the logo, and blank in the upper right. I would shift the whole image an inch or two to the right, and remove some of the plants on the left.

Now, see, this is how contest thingies should be run. You're actually telling us EXACTLY what's wrong with it, and giving us advice. The Jay likes this contest thingy now!

How in the world do you post an image to this thread? Do I have to have it on a website somewhere? - Christian
p.s. sorry, but I don't do forums very often. :)

You need to post it online somewhere, then use image forum tags:
[ IMG ]http://www.maumedia.com/image.jpg[ /IMG ]
Just don't put in the spaces I have here =)
If you use the reply button instead of the quick reply box, you can just click the little yellow picture of a mountain and it will put the tags in for you.

Here it is:

Same problems I mentioned earlier. Too much contrast behind the title, the text doesn't work in white or black. But you have a black area right under the title that's just waisting space. Severe antialiasing problems.
My main advice would be to come up with a concept and spend some time on it. I don't want to be harsh, but the header images are going to be 10 of the best images possible, to represent the entire community to the rest of the world. I am looking for more than a simple geometric design. I'll be accepting new designs for the foreseeable future, and rotating out images on a constant basis, so you'll always have a chance to get some work in.

Here are some abstract banners. Probably not what Michael is looking for, but they may be a start. I don't think they are "3D" enough for the cafe. http://www.stratacafe.com/image.asp?imageID=14883

Excellent idea, Michael
Seems like all my images have dark backgrounds and high contrast. Oh well. Maybe later.
I'm looking forward to seeing the new design. No doubt it will be absolutely spiffing and cool to the point of near-froodiness.
