Hello I need some modelling help if anybody can give it.. attached are 2 things im wondering how the heck there done in 3d! Im up to Strata cx 5.5.

First one i have attached is tentacles.. always wondered how this is done.. i have two examples for the example.

The second is an atatchment of a metal tentacle like how the old school doctor octopuss has his tentacles.. like a tentacle made up multiple peices of metal.. i love that look.. how do i go about pulling this off?

THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME and hope to hear from someone soon!

Hi Mike:
You could make a polygon modeled cylinder or tentacle and attach a skeleton to it; then pose it with Bones. That is the method I used for the very simple tentacles in this image:

Are there multiple ways to do the same thing possibly? Id liketo do pointy tentacles if possible. the more in depth ways the better for me!

I'm not sure what other methods you can use; but you could definitely make the tentacles pointy. You could start with a cylinder; convert it to polygon mesh and edit the shape using the Polygon Edit tools. Build the tentacle so that it is straight - that makes it easy to position the Bones. On my aliens each tentacle is a Shape Instance of it's own, with a Skeleton applied to position it. Each tentacle Shape is Linked to the body of the Alien.

as with any other modeling project, there are a number of ways to approach this.

Besides starting with a cylinder and shaping it with bones, you might also consider creating the shape and curvature more directly, by beginning with a path extrusion. (Strata's bones feature is advanced, and is buggy, so it may not be the ideal starting point for a new user. However, if you need to animate the tentacles, it would probably be necessary to use bones.)

Even if you start with a path extrusion, though, you will need to convert to polygon mesh and do further editing to create the points.

Perhaps before you tackle this project you should do some beginner tutorials to acquaint yourself with the available tools and techniques.
