Now that Design 3D CX 6.1 is out the door, we're sweeping up some lingering issues and turning our thoughts towards future releases.
Let us know what's on your Design 3D wishlist. We can't guarantee that your ideas will make it into the next version, but we'd like to hear what you want.

Well, I just mentioned this in another topic - but here it is again:
Strata's animation capabilities need a big upgrade. Especially the simple easing in and out of keyframes for a motion or rotation. ScriptFX is a small step in the right direction - but you need to be a programmer to modify the presets. I don't find them all that helpful. And they don't even work with the camera. What's needed is a graph editor like in After Effects, Flash, and just about every other 3D program out there (even the cheap ones). And the velocity controls in the Event Options window have always been terribly inadequate. Why can't Strata have finer control of the motion of objects???

I'm With steveB
and Newer Project window selecting and moving keyframes on more then one layer at a time reordering layers, layer grouping without being a group motion grapher, editor
UV Map making(maybe more then one UV map per object) Sub Surface Scatter update on fog and mist(light beams and better shadows) DOF on stenciled and transparent texture Bones, handles for easer control of rotation and twisting Bone mode, a mix of wire and shaded view. ie soild bones(shaded), mesh(wireframe ) or some form of ghosting.
just some quick thoughts eg

Some ideas are in this thread as well labeled "6.5" http://www.stratacafe.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8457
I would like to see: -good plug-ins for organic procedural textures (dirt, grime, wear and aging) and shapes (hair, clouds, trees, vines, stones) -hard body physics -better collision detection -commands to make things drop until they are stopped by other objects (hardbody physics) -SSS -UV editor -Better displacement to fully handle ZBrush type sculpting results on low polygon models. -camera treated more like an object, so it behaves as other objects do when you manipulate it and apply scripts to it. -Velocity Graphs in the Project window. -sound file syncing - Project window drag and drop organization - More intuitive/easy Bones setup and manipulation - Automatic polygon decimation when objects move to the distance (read Cinefex about Avatar) - look into harmonic illumination for faster GI lighting (again reading about Avatar) |

-SSS -Maya like window navigation with alt + rbtn, alt + lbtn, alt + mbtn nav. -Better displacement to fully handle ZBrush type sculpting results on low polygon models. -GoZbrush like Maya, Cinema and Modo got. and all tbgriswold mentions.

Strata beïng a 3D animationprogram, not only a design program. =>
* support for FBX!!! (import + export -> camera, lights and entire animations)
* support for spacenavigator * mouse orbit/zoom navigation * UV mapping (strata costs way too much to not have this basic feature) * better animation tools -> bones, weight painting, vivible constraints, morph mixer, pose/take manager, ... * sculpt tools * physics: rigid/softbody/cloth * SSS * hair/fur * liquids * manipulator (cheetah 3D style) |

Yes, some pixel based motion blur would speed things up a lot.

| Direct export to U3D format for direct import into PDF without the need for Live 3D. |

* boolean (pathfinder-like) tools that work on (2D) paths/shapes, so we don't need to switch to illustrator any more.

What I would like to see: Boolean operations, e.g., Boolean Subtract . . . that -- after the operation -- don't leave artifacts that appear in the modeling window. This is just DREADFUL!!! When I use Boolean Subtract, in some cases, the Subtractor object REMAINS visible as an artifact in the modeling window. OK, so it doesn't render; that's GOOD. But the fact that the Subtractor object remains as a visible artifact in the Modeling Window is really a major visual hindrance . . . especially when there are lots of elements in the model. Those visual artifacts really GET IN THE WAY!!!
PLEASE address and FIX this deplorable bug!!!

I'd like to see a couple of changes:
1. Make the grid optional in preferences. I NEVER use the grid, so it's a major pain to have to turn it off every time I open a new window.
2.Fix the center-point-flying-out-into-space bug (that's been a problem for years) when an object is ungrouped.
3. Fix the Boolean operations. (I second DavidRossPurnell's comment)
4. Fix the bug in the extrusion operation - for some shapes (mostly, seemingly simple ones) when you extrude, you get a twisted, distorted result.
5. More tutorials and support materials.

A Sound Track LIne in the Project Window would be nice. Also UV mapping capabilities - not just a combination of decal, projection etc. + Burn UV.

I second Dasch's wish for a Sound Track line in the Project Window. In fact, I am presently in the middle of a client project in which I have to sync my s3d animation to a voice track. Having an audio track in s3d would make this (and future such projects) SO MUCH EASIER.

super yes to, FBX support!
also "purge memory" menu option better memory management on long renders
I'll second the request for weight painting normal maps caustics "multi processor aware" better collision detection

Group and Ungroup:
I second the post by jpro (Jean) in the forum, "Feature Requests for 6.5?". Jean wrote:
You don't need to ungroup a group to add something to it!
Just double click the group to open it, and paste the new item into the group's modeling window.

David,
Jean's comment is that this is a current feature. We are looking for the ability to drag objects into groups or folders in the project window.

Britt -- THANK YOU! I did misunderstand what Jean meant . . . because -- until now -- I didn't know that could be done, that is, double click a group and paste an object into the group's modeling window. I'M SO GLAD TO LEARN THIS!!! It has been a long-standing source of frustration to me that this couldn't be done (so I thought).
